Concept for the Yearbook of the Theatre Basel

This yearbook is a remittance work for the Theatre Basel. The idea was to publish a DVD with documentary reports about the theater's staff with the focus on the activities happening behind the curtain. Graphic design students were asked to map out appropriate concepts for the yearbook that contain the DVD and visualize the core message.

My concept was as follows:

"Reading between the lines"
Normally we only see the artists on stage but not the people contributing behind the curtain while watching a play. Reading a text is a similar situation. I wanted to emphasize on the equal importance of words and empty space and that one cannot exist without the other.

My concept consists of two main elements: the text that is highlighted which points out the space in between – and the text which always fills in the whole typed area and changes size depending on the amount of words. Thus the occurrence of rhythms and movements that are defined by the content which give the yearbook its liveliness.
